With all of the hoopla surrounding the Ohio State game this weekend it made us think…how could a bride and groom incorporate their schools into their wedding? We know there are some die hard fans out there and here are a few ways to incorporate your school(s) into your special day. Not only is it fun but it can be a way to get the groom involved with more aspects of the wedding planning.
If you plan to do this or have done this at your wedding, feel free to post your info in the comments.
- Have some of your wedding or engagement pictures taken on campus
- Have a groom’s cake that incorporates the school logo or mascot like the Ohio State cake from Frosted shown above
- Surprise your groom with a garter featuring the school. Shop sites online like Sew Unique Garters or Garters and Such
- Make the school colors the colors you use for the wedding
- Have the school fight song played during the reception or use it as your recessional song
- Name your tables at the reception based on buildings on campus or things associated with the school
- See if you can actually get married on campus…many schools, like Miami University actually have websites devoted to having ceremonies and/or receptions on their campus
- Take pictures at various places on campus holding numbers then have them printed and place in frames featuring the school’s logo or just a nice, simple frame and use them as the tables numbers at the reception
- Have the wait staff wear hats from the college as they are serving
- Get pompoms in the school colors and have your guests wave them as you are leaving the reception instead of throwing birdseed or blowing bubbles
- If you know the mascot or someone in the marching band, see if they can make an appearance during the reception
- If a lot of your guests are from the school, get them all together for a fun photo
- If you are having a photobooth, make it school themed with colors or fun game day props the guests can use for their pictures
- Get the groomsmen cufflinks with the school logo or socks in the school colors
- Instead of a traditional guest book, have your guests sign a team jersey that you can then have framed
- Have pictures of your bridal party in football poses (groomsmen lined up with the groom as quarterback, bride posing as the Heisman trophy with her bouquet, etc.)
- Have a unique cake topper with the team logo or have one made like these we found on Etsy
- If your wedding occurs on a big game day in the fall, consider having a TV tuned to the game in the bar/lounge area of your reception
